Born in Tokyo but working in Montparnasse, Foujita (the illustrator) evolved a style of Japanese make-up brush painting on creamy white surfaces. Joseph (prose poems) founded the publishing house that bore his name and became the first life president of the Siamese Cat Society of the British Empire.
