First edition of the first substantial representation of cultural works by Aboriginal Australians. Katie Langloh Parker (1856-1940) lived in South Australia and went to school with a Ualarai girl who had saved her from drowning when she was a child. In 1879, she moved to Bangate Station on Ualarai lands with her husband and studied her surroundings, taking a particular interest in the Aborigines. She respected their culture and traditions, so gaining their trust, and began to collect their myths and legends. This work contains over 30 myths and legends.

Book Condition: Good hardcover with fraying and tanning to board edges and spine, with surface marks for age. The FFEPs to front and back have been replaced with new white paper and the title page is missing. The text block edges are darkened and marked. The pages between page 64 to 65 are slightly apart at the hinge but remain intact. The rest of the book from the dedication page to the book advertisements at the back are all present. Some minor foxing throughout the book. Otherwise, a good copy internally.
