Black Opium

Black Opium was commissioned as part of the redevelopment of the State Library of Queensland building in 2006. The installation draws visitors along the Knowledge Walk and acts as a prelude to the Heritage of Collections Suite on level four. Suspended poppy heads arranged in the shape of the infinity symbol connect to a series of seven small rooms representing different ambiences and cultures, exploring themes of history, memory and politics through sculptural installations and photographs.
