From Ballads to Brennan is the first volume in an anthology which, in two volumes gives a picture of the best Australian poetry from its beginnings to the early 1960s. Volume I covers covers the period from 1788 to 1930. Volume II, Modern Australian Verse, covers the period from 1930 to the early 1960s.

Book Condition: Good hardcovers with wear and fading to the boards. Some minor chipping, closed tears and edge wear to the dust jackets. Volume I has a price-clipped dust jacket. There are tan marks and spotting to the inside flaps, pastedowns and endpapers from old tape that had been applied to the plastic covers that are no longer present. A few small closed tears to the top of the front endpaper and next half-title page in Volume II. An Ex-libris sticker on page opposite the half-title page in Volume II. A few numbers in pen on the front endpaper of Volume II. Otherwise, the main body of poetry in both volumes remains clean and unmarked.
